Wen Peng’s Personal Experiments
In this sharing session, artist Wen Peng will start from his personal symbol “Little White Man” and outline the evolution of his performance art. Wen Peng’s creative practice is based on performance art, in which he expresses himself by playing the role of ordinary person in society. In this process, he paints his face white, dissolving the boundaries of individual identity, so that the character can be anyone : male, female, you or me, in this state of anonymity achieves a broader social significance. Painting was initially a way for Wen Peng to sharpen his character. He deliberately avoids the constraints of traditional painting language, and forms a unique visual vocabulary by personalizing the toys and matching them with words, creating an effect of expression like a little white man’s ironic trash talking. By chance, Wen Peng entered the world of monodrama. In this art form, painting, texts and performance are integrated, forming a creative state of complete self-reliance. This practice transcends the limitations of traditional art festivals and exhibitions, allowing the artist to create in a space of complete autonomy and pure joy.
